Who Is Knees?

Knees is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based creative with a passion for blending digital and analog art forms to craft unique visual experiences. As a proud Māori artist, Knees draws inspiration from cultural heritage and contemporary influences to produce striking, glitchy visuals that captivate audiences. With a background in digital design and film production, Knees brings a distinctive perspective to every project, transforming spaces into immersive, art-filled environments.

Knees has always felt a deep connection to CRT TVs, having grown up surrounded by their warm glow and iconic hum. These screens were more than just entertainment—they were windows into stories, creativity, and connection. Today, Knees channels that nostalgia into art, creating visuals that resonate with audiences on a personal level. Whether they grew up with CRT TVs or are discovering them for the first time, people often feel a sense of wonder and familiarity. Knees’ work taps into this universal nostalgia, bridging generations and reminding us of the beauty in old technology brought to life in new ways 🙂

Ok? But why is your name Knees?

Based on my name ‘Niwa’, Knees is the artist name I choose to go by. This name has followed me since birth and been used to credit myself whenever my artistic vision of a project has been fulfilled.

There is no limit to the creative imagery I can put on my retro TVs. I will create
captivating and nostalgic visuals tailored to the atmosphere of each event, including custom graphics, live camera feeds allowing anyone to experience themselves “all glitchy”, and themed visuals that align with the event’s aesthetic. My visual styles can vary widely, ranging from colorful, slow, and smooth to fast, flashy, and edgy.
